The field of investment banking is one that requires more than just an undergraduate degree. You require a certain level of GPA, specialized skills, and a strong network to get into the industry. Many financial professionals who are aspiring are unsure of which institutions will be the most beneficial in getting their job.
Typically investment banks in the bulk bracket employ associate and analyst positions certain universities. These are referred to as “target schools.” If you’re hoping to secure a job at a top-tier investment bank, it’s crucial to go to one of these schools.
The top investment banking institutions are ones which consistently send a substantial number of graduates to the biggest investment banks, and have impressive numbers of undergrads being placed. Some of these schools have extracurricular activities and student clubs that provide students with exposure to the business. Examples include the Stern Finance Society or Booth’s famous Finance Curriculum.
This year, Cornell is the best investment banking school followed by MIT, and Columbia. All three are Ivy League institutions that have been known for a long time to send grads to Wall Street. The University of Texas at Austin was also included on the list. The McCombs School of Business offers an accounting track as well as a finance major.
While you could still get into the top investment bank even when you don’t attend an accredited school however, it’s much more difficult. The most realistic path for students who aren’t targeted is to sign up with an organization that is a regional middle market and then slowly lateral to an upward-facing bracket.
